Serbian clerics and faithful from Arad, Romania, honoured St Sava of Serbia on Friday.

Saint Sava was the first Archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the founder of Serbian school, state, and diplomacy.

On this occasion, Archbishop Timothy of Arad celebrated the Divine Liturgy together with His Eminence Lukian Pantelich, Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Hungary and administrator of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Timișoara. The service was held at the “Holy Apostles Peter and Paul – Arad Centre” Serbian Parish in Arad.

The synaxis of clerics included Father Iustin Popovici, cultural advisor to the Archdiocese of Arad, and Archdeacon Emanuel Ioan Proniuc, diocesan secretary. The students from “Bishop Ioan Mețianu” School in Arad participated accompanied by their teachers.

The Serbian hierarch spoke about His Eminence Timothy’s long-standing ties with the Serbian community in Arad and Banat.

The event ended with a memorial service for the founders of the Serbian church in Arad and a “pita cutting” ceremony.
