Meeting of the Patriarch of Alexandria with the Greek Prime Minister
On August 3, 2023, His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa welcomed the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during his official visit to Egypt, at El Alamein, at the monument to the fallen Greeks during the historic battle of 1942.
During their meeting, the two men expressed their mutual feelings of respect, appreciation, and love, which characterise their long-standing personal friendship, while they had a brief private discussion on important issues.
A wreath was laid at the monument of the Greek fallen by the Prime Minister, after which the Patriarch offered a short prayer while offering a holy icon of Saint Kyriakos the Anchorite to Mitsotakis.
In the context of the above ceremony, the Patriarch had brief talks with Georgios Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Nikolaos Dendias, Minister of National Defense.
It is noted that the honorary event was attended by His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Naucratis, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Nikolaos Papageorgiou, Ambassador of Greece to Cairo, the Consuls of Greece in Cairo and Alexandria, the Presidents of the Greek Communities of Cairo and Alexandria, high-ranking state and military officials of the Egyptian state and other officials.
