Memorial event for Constantine P. Cavafy in Nichori, Bosporus

On Saturday, 29 April 2023, at the Holy Church of Panagia Koumariotissa, in Nichori on the Bosphorus, a special memorial event was held in honour of the great and universal poet C.P. Cavafy (April 29, 1863 – April 29, 1933), on the occasion of three anniversaries: the 160 years since his birth, the 90 years since his death and the 140 years since his passage from Nichori, where he lived for a period of time in his youth (1882-1885).

The commemorative event began with a Trisagion Memorial Service in front of the bust of the poet, which was placed in the courtyard of Panagia Koumariotissa exactly 10 years ago (2013), at the initiative of the then president of the Community, Lakis Viga, Archon Grand Hartofylakos of the Great Church of Christ.

The President of the Supervisory Committee of the Community, Mr. Nikos Kalamaris, delivered a greeting to all those who were present.

Actors Hakan Meriçliler, Kostas Kortidis and Ayla Algan, Alicia Kaputag, Maral Fuchs participated in the commemorative event.

Poems by Cavafy were also recited by a teacher of the Zappeion School, author Cornelia Chevik-Baivertian, as well as young children.

Many people attended and this gave rise also to the general success of the commemorative event.
