The first official visit of the Ecumenical Patriarch to the Metropolis of Eleia to take place in September
On Thursday, 30 March 2023, His Eminence, the new Metropolitan Athanasios of Eleia and Oleni paid an official visit to the headquarters of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, joined by the Protosyncellus of the Metropolis Archimandrite Filaretos Spanopoulos, and Mr. Ioannis Lentzas Mayor of Andravida-Kyllini, Mr. Ioannis Argyropoulos, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Pyrgos, representative of the Mayor Mr. Panagiotis Antonakopoulos, and Mr. Georgios Sarantopoulos, executive of the Municipality of Andravida-Kyllini.
The new Metropolitan of Eleia and Oleni, who visited Constantinople for the first time, asked for and received the blessing of His All-Holiness, expressing his and his flock’s respect for the Mother Church, and, together with the representatives of the Local Government, offered an invitation to the Ecumenical Patriarch to visit his ecclesiastical Province, and in particular the municipality of Pyrgos, the seat of the Metropolis and Capital of the Prefecture of Eleia, as well as the other large municipality of Andravida-Kyllini.
The Ecumenical Patriarch congratulated His Eminence Metropolitan Athanasios for his deserved election and wished him a fruitful Pastorate. He also thanked him, as well as the Self-Governing representatives, for the kind invitation to which, God willing, he will respond to at the beginning of the next September.
It is worth noting that it will be the first official visit of an Ecumenical Patriarch to this Metropolis in the Peloponnese region of Greece.
