Northcote: Vespers of Forgiveness at the Holy Church of Axion Estin
On Cheesefare Sunday evening, 26 February 2023, at the Archdiocesan Church of Our Lady “Axion Estin“, in Northcote, Victoria, the Vespers of Forgiveness took place.
His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, presided over the Vespers Service, while teachers and students of the Byzantine School of Music of the Archdiocese of Australia chanted the sacred hymns of the service.
During his sermon, His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta referred to the joy that we should all feel in this period, noting among other things: “Lent should not cause us problems, but joy and cheerfulness since it aims to bring us closer to God and make us correct our relationship with Him”.
At the conclusion of the Vespers service, His Grace conveyed to all those present the wishes and prayers of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia for a blessed Lenten period.
