School Blessing to mark an Exciting New Period at St Andrew’s Grammar in Perth

On Friday, 17 February 2023, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea conducted the blessing (agiasmo) and cutting of the Vasilopita to mark the beginning of the new academic year at St Andrew’s Grammar Day School in Perth, WA.

His Grace conveyed the paternal blessings and love of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios and read for the staff and students the message of His Eminence for the beginning of the new school year. In His message, His Eminence focused on the Three Hierarchs – St Basil the Great, St Gregory the Theologian, and St John Chrysostom – the patron saints of all levels of education, of teachers, and of students. His Eminence when referring to St Basil the Great encouraged the students to be like the bee, which takes from the flowers only what makes good honey.

His Grace then asked the entire school assembly to keep a minute’s silence so that they might pray for and pay respect to the many thousands of men, women and children who have died recently in the tragic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Interim Principal, Mr Craig Monaghan thanked His Grace for his presence and blessings for the new year.

St Andrew’s Grammar is currently embarking on a significant program of investment in infrastructure as the student numbers have increased significantly in the past 4 years from 350 to over 700 students. Twelve new demountable classrooms have been erected to accommodate the increase in students with many more permanent classrooms and buildings to be built in the coming years. In particular, the school and community are working towards building a new STEM building (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to allow a greater diversity of subjects to be offered to the High School students.
