Tens of thousands venerate Holy Cincture of the Theotokos at Saint Nicholas of Piraeus
The Holy Cincture of the Theotokos, the All-Holy Virgin Mary, returned to Mount Athos yesterday, nine days after being solemnly conveyed to the St. Nicholas Cathedral of Piraeus for veneration by the faithful and clergy.
The Pemptousia television platform on Monday morning again live-streamed the Orthros service and Divine Liturgy from the cathedral, conducted before the Holy Cincture.
The port city of Piraeus was blessed with the presence of the Holy Relic over the past nine days, with the Church of St. Nicholas remaining open on a 24-hour basis to allow the flock the opportunity to venerate the Holy Cincture, the only object from the earthly life of the Theotokos.
According to reports, more than 150,000 worshippers passed before the Holy Relic in veneration.
On Monday morning, many of the faithful also received the blessing of the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy & Great Monastery of Vatopedi, shortly before the return journey to convey the Holy Relic back to Mount Athos, and during a Supplication Service before the Holy Cincture.
A day earlier, on Sunday, the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Metropolitan of Prikonissos, His Eminence Joseph, officiated at an emotional Divine Liturgy at the Piraeus Cathedral.
