Saint Panteleimon in Dandenong serve hot meals and fresh sandwiches for those on Melbourne’s streets
With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, the Five Loaves volunteers and local parishioners together with Rev. Anthony Krinas, president Steven Karamoschos and team lead Anastasios Fotakis from the Greek Orthodox Parish and Community of Saint Panteleimon in Dandenong this week made hot meals and fresh sandwiches for the homeless in Melbourne.
On Thursday, 10 November 2022 the hot meals consisting of marinated chicken and vegetables, fresh fruit, dessert, snacks and water were distributed to crisis accommodation centres and to the Queen Victoria Market for people living through difficult circumstances as well as people living from the streets of Melbourne.
On Sunday, 13 November 2022 at the Greek Orthodox Parish and Community of Saint Panteleimon in Dandenong; Five Loaves program volunteers and local parishioners gathered to make 500 sandwiches for the homeless and those in need.
The sandwiches were completed within an hour. Many volunteers came to assist in the Parish Hall following the completion of the Divine Liturgy in the adjacent Church. The sandwiches made were ham and cheese and cheese.
Following the sandwich making a small group of parishioners took the sandwiches to Queen Victoria Market where many homeless come in the early evening.
The majority of the sandwiches were distributed by parishioners to the homeless at the market. The remaining sandwiches were delivered to crisis accommodation centre in West Melbourne, and the CBD.
The next sandwich making event will be held at the Holy Trinity Church in Richmond next Sunday, 20 November 2022.
