The President of the Hellenic Republic met with the Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Kyiv
On Thursday, November 3, the day of the official visit of the President of the Hellenic Republic to Ukraine, Katerina Sakellaropoulou and the Minister of National Defense of Greece, Mr. Nikos Panagiotopoulos, they met with the Proistamenos of the Stavropegic of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Ukraine and Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarch, His Grace Bishop Michael of Komana. The charge d’affaires of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Ukraine, Mr. Emmanuel Androulakis, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the situation of religious life in Ukraine in the context of the Russian military invasion and other issues of common interest were discussed.
Earlier in the day, the distinguished guests met with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the President of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Mr. Ruslan Stefanchuk.
The President of the Hellenic Republic also visited the areas of Kyiv that were affected by the Russian invaders, namely Borodyanka, Butsa and Irpin.
President Sakellaropoulou also visited the Cathedral of Saint Sophia in Kyiv, and then went to the “Wall of Fallen Fighters in the Russian-Ukrainian War”, where she laid flowers. Immediately after, she was given a tour of the new wings of the National History Museum and visited the “Ukraine-Crucifixion” exhibition with Russian documentation from the invasion, as well as the “Martyrologist-Children” exhibition for the children who became victims, to which she donated Greek toys.
Finally, the President of the Hellenic Republic placed, symbolically, a floral composition with wheat for the victims of the Great Famine of 1932-1933, at the National Museum of the Genocide of Holodomor.
