President Sakellaropoulou attends inauguration of temporary exhibition of Kore of Thira
The President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou attended on Sunday the inauguration of the temporary exhibition of the “Kore of Thira” at the Archaeological Museum of Santorini and praised Cyclades Antiquities Ephorate and the municipality for its significant work that is delivered to the public.
“Yesterday, I attended the inauguration of the restoration of Episkopi on Sikinos island. Today, eagerly responding to the proposal of the mayor of Thira and of Culture Minister, I am here in Santorini where 22 years after its unearthing is displayed for the first time the, of exquisite beauty statue of the Archaic Era, “Kore of Thira” Sakellaropoulou said.
In parallel, she noted that “The importance that has the Aegean, the islands of Cyclades as well as the culture is not only a capital for our country but has the tremendous power to heal the agony of our soul, especially in difficult periods. I would like to congratulate again the Ephorate of Cyclades, the Culture Ministry and the municipality for this significant work that is today delivered to the public”.
Afterwards, Sakellaropoulou visited the Museum of Prehistoric Thera and was toured to the exhibition “Thira Murals – The Treasure of the Prehistoric Aegean”.
