The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens strips Vladimir Putin of his honorary doctorate
The procedure for the removal of Vladimir Putin’s honorary doctorate from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), a title awarded to him in 2001, has begun.
The Rectorate of the University of Athens informed the Rectors of the European Alliance CIVIS of this fact.
During the CIVIS Alliance Rectors’ Online Meeting on Wednesday, among the topics discussed was Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Many universities in Ukraine have been almost destroyed or are struggling to remain open.
In this context, “in order to accelerate the process of restructuring and synchronisation of the levels of higher education functioning between Ukraine and the EU”, the NKUA proposes “twinning between the Ukrainian universities (or group of Ukrainian universities) and a partnership with European universities that can be a coordinator and catalyst for such partnerships”.
According to the statement, the purpose of such a twinning will be “to give Ukrainian universities access to the educational and research resources of joint alliances and networks and to develop new multifarious cooperation and joint projects”.
