Visit of the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of National Defense of Greece to the Archdiocese of Australia
The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of National Defense of Greece, Admiral Mr. Ioannis Drymousis, accompanied by Squadron Leader Miltiadis Militsis and the Military Attaché of the Greek Embassy in Canberra, Colonel Mr. Ioannis Fasianos, paid a visit on Friday, May 13, to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia at the headquaters of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia in Sydney. The meeting lasted about an hour and was followed by a meal offered by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios in honor of the respected and special guests.
Admiral Mr. Ioannis Drymousis conveyed to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios the prayers and the respect of the Chief of the General Staff of National Defense, General Mr. Konstantinos Floros, and assured him that the entire military leadership is in support of the Holy Archdiocese and the Archbishop for all the efforts made for the unity of Hellenism of the fifth continent (Australia).
“We are watching your work and congratulate you on what you have done here in Australia. We are close to you in whatever you need. We are by your side and we support the work of the Church which is unifying and aims at the progress of Hellenism and the highest ideas of our Nation “, noted, among others, the Deputy Head of the General Staff of National Defense of Greece.
His Eminence, for his part, wished for the strengthening of the Greek Army and stressed to his guests that their visit is a special honor for the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
“We admire your struggles and your trials,” he said, “and we are sure that our beloved homeland is not in danger because it has people in the Greek Army who have faith and ideals. Thank you for coming to Australia.
Your presence helps the bridge between Greece and Australia never to become overgrow and unused, but rather to be full of footsteps always from people making the journey. “May there always be people going to Greece and others starting from Greece and having their destination in Australia.”
Afterwards, the Archbishop received as a honor, the coat of arms of the Greek Army from Mr. Drymousis, while His Eminence offered to the special visitors the silver coin minted by the Holy Archdiocese of Australia for the 200 year anniversary of the beginning of the Greek Revolution.
