Masks back for Queenslanders from 1am tomorrow

Mask mandates will return for indoor shopping venues in Queensland from 1am tomorrow, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced.
Ms Palaszczuk said as COVID-19 cases surge in states like New South Wales, the new rules were an extra precaution over the Christmas period.
“There are a lot of people coming in from New South Wales and Victoria. A lot of people seeing their families” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“We are not at that 90 per cent double dose like New South Wales and Victoria are.
“When you’re Christmas shopping with your families, please wear your mask.”
Masks will be mandatory in retail shops and grocery stores, but will not be required outdoors or in cafes and restaurants.
The premier said this was because from today, everyone inside these hospitality venues will be double-vaccinated.
Masks will also be compulsory on public transport, in rideshare services and taxis, and when visiting hospitals or aged care residences.
They will still be required on planes and in airports.
“It’s an added precaution over this Christmas New Year period,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
Queensland recorded 22 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, but the premier said there would be no lockdowns over Christmas.
The mask mandate will be statewide and will be reviewed when Queensland reaches its 90 per cent double dose vaccination target, expected to be reached in January next year.
