Dominic Perrottet named NSW premier to replace Gladys Berejiklian

Dominic Perrottet will be sworn in as the new premier of NSW to replace Gladys Berejiklian, with the treasurer set to take the top job as his state prepares to emerge from COVID-19 lockdown.

Mr Perrottet won a NSW Liberal Party ballot against Planning Minister Rob Stokes on Tuesday morning to become the 46th premier and youngest in the state’s history, at 39 years old.

The leadership spill was forced following Ms Berejiklian’s abrupt resignation last Friday, amid an investigation from the state’s anti-corruption watchdog.

Mr Perrottet secured the leadership with the help of a deal that will see Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres become deputy Liberal Leader and Environment Minister Matt Kean to be named as Treasurer.
