The clergy and laity of Australia thank the Patriarch of our people for the new bishops
With great joy and emotion, the faithful of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia were informed of the decisions of the Holy and Great Synod of our Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding the elevation of His Grace Bishop Ezekiel of Dervis to Metropolitan of Dervis, and the election of four new assistant Bishops, who will serve the Greek community in the fifth Continent.
The new Bishops have been assigned the following positions by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios:
His Grace Bishop-elect Kyriakos of Sozopolis is appointed Archiepiscopal Vicar of Melbourne.
His Grace Bishop-elect Christodoulos of Magnesia is appointed Chief Secretary of the Holy Episcopal Assembly of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
His Grace Bishop-elect Evmenios of Kerasounta is appointed Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote.
His Grace Bishop-elect Prochoros of Charioupolis is appointed Archiepiscopal Vicar of Canberra.
Furthermore, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, as a member of the Holy and Sacred Synod, thanked His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for the honour and care displayed by the Mother Church to the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and conveyed the filial love and the deepest respect of the faithful of the Church in Australia to his venerable Person.
Our Shepherd, His Eminence, has completed, by the grace of God, his duties as a member of the Holy and Sacred Synod and after the convening of the Assembly of the Hierarchs (September 1-3) he will return to his See.
The dates for the reading of the Great Message and the episcopal ordinations will be announced in due course and also in accordance with the relevant measures of the State to deal with the pandemic.
