13 years since the falling asleep in the Lord of the Late Metropolitan Anthimos of Rethymno and Avlopotamos
On Saturday morning, 19 August 2023, at the Katholikon of the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Baptist and Forerunner Atalis-Bali, a Poly-Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was held and served by Eminence Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria, His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of Petra and Hersonissos and His Eminence Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno and Avlopotamos. During which the Hierarchical Memorial Service for the completion of 13 years since the falling asleep in the Lord of the Late Metropolitan Anthimos of Rethymno and Avlopotamos took place, who was the responsible for the renovation of the Holy Monastery in which the service took place.
Also present in prayer for the Divine Liturgy where Their Graces, Bishop Gregory of Mesaoria from the Church of Cyprus and Bishop Methodios of Knossos.
During the Matins service, His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of Petra and Heronissos officiated and offered an inspiring, heartfelt and empirical address about the blessed Metropolitan Anthimos and about their many years of deep friendship.
Before the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno expressed grateful thanks to the holy Hierarchs, to the clergy and all who attended, offering, as he said, a bouquet of gratitude and thanksgiving to the blessed Metropolitan Anthimos, who worked fruitfully and tirelessly for the good of the local Church.
This was followed, in the Archontariki of the Monastery, by a offering of sweets and then a monastic meal for the repose of the blessed Metropolitan Anthimos, offered by the Holy Monastery and the holy Abbot, Archimandrite Parthenios Kalyvianakis, who closed the memorial meal with words of gratitude and thanksgiving.
Present also, among other, were the Protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis of Kissamos and Selino, Archimandrite Agathangelos Koumartzakis, Archimandrite Anthimos Mantzouranis, who had served as Protosyncellus of the blessed Metropolitan Anthimos, Protopresbyter Fr. Nikolaos Polakis, who had served as Vicar General of the blessed Hierarch, and clerics both from the Holy Metropolis of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, as well as from other ecclesiastical provinces, who had been associated with the late Metropolitan Anthimos.
Everyone wished that our Lord would rest the blessed Metropolitan among the Righteous and with His Saints, so that he may intercede at the Throne of God for the spiritual advancement of the Church of Rethymno.
