Brisbane: Memorial Service for the victims of the Greek Pontian Genocide

On Sunday, 19 May 2024, with the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, the newly appointed Archiepiscopal Vicar of Brisbane conducted a memorial service for the commemoration of the Pontian Greek Genocide at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George in Brisbane.

At the end of the Memorial Service, addressing the faithful, His Grace asked them to pray for the repose of the souls of those 353,000 people who lost their lives, as well as for history not to repeat itself, but for peace to prevail in the world.

In addition, His Grace emphasised the importance of having Pontus in our hearts and thoughts, and at the same time praying for our brothers in Cyprus who also suffered and for all those who are being tested in Ukraine, the Holy Land and where warlike situations are raging.
