The Second Day of Christmas at the Holy Monastery of Saint Macrina in Bukoba, Tanzania
At the Holy Monastery of Saint Macrina, in Bukoba, northwestern Tanzania, on Thursday, 26 December 2024, the second day of Christmas, His Grace Bishop Chrysostomos of Bukoba, Western Tanzania and Rwanda celebrated the Divine Liturgy, at which all the priests of Bukoba concelebrated and the seminarians of the “Apostle and Evangelist Mark” Seminary and the girls of the “Saint Aquilina” Vestment School were also present.
In his sermon, His Grace referred to Christ’s flight to Egypt, which “was a great trial for the Lord and a great anguish of the Theotokos and Joseph for his rescue from the murderous knife of Herod.”
“But for Africans it is a great honour that Christ and the Theotokos were hosted for three years in Egypt, Africa,” His Grace Bishop Chrysostomos pointed out and added: “Africa saved Christ. Africa hosted Christ. With His stay, He blessed Africa and Africans. Only the African continent had this privilege of hosting Christ. That is why we Africans celebrate this event today and welcome Christ. Christ honoured us. It is our duty, and we too, to keep him close to us forever and to place him in our countries, in our homes and in our hearts.”
