The ordination of Bishop Fanourios of Tyana in Chambésy, Geneva

On Saturday, 14 June 2025, the day of the celebration of the feast of Pentecost, in the Holy Church of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Nations, the Orthodox Centre of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambésy, Geneva, the ordination of His Grace, Bishop-elect Fanourios of the once illustrious diocese of Tyana, as a bishop, was celebrated with due ecclesiastical order.

Concelebrating with the presiding Hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Maximos of Switzerland, were Their Eminences, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Rhodes, Metropolitan Polykarpos of Italy, Metropolitan Savvas of Nubia, Metropolitan Kallinikos of Arta, and His Grace Bishop Kyrillos of Olympus. The Divine Liturgy was attended by Priests and Deacons from the Holy Metropolises of Switzerland, Belgium and Rhodes, and the Holy Metropolises of the Church of Greece.

After the end of the Doxology, the elected Bishop of Tyana read before the Hierarchs, the holy clergy and the people, according to the Church order, the Confession of Faith.

Before the ordination, His Eminence Metropolitan Maximos of Switzerland, addressed the appropriate greeting to the Bishop-elect, who responded appropriately with his own address. After the speeches were concluded, the ordination to the episcopate was performed. During the vesting of the new bishop, the crowd of faithful believers, which had flooded the Holy Church, exclaimed “worthy”.

Before the Dismissal, the Metropolitan of Switzerland presented the newly ordained Auxiliary Bishop with the mitre and the pastoral staff, and, subsequently, His Grace Bishop Fanourios of Tyana, from the episcopal throne, performed the Dismissal of the Divine Liturgy and distributed the antidoron, as well as a commemorative blessing to all the faithful present, those who had come from Geneva, Zurich, Basel, Lugano and St. Gallen.

After the reception, a festive meal followed in the premises of the Orthodox Centre.

Also present for the ordination were Ms. Aikaterini Simopoulou, Ambassador of Greece to Switzerland, with her husband Mr. Aristidis Sandis, retired Ambassador, Mr. Alexandros Gennimatas, Consul General of Greece in Geneva, Mr. Vasilios Ypsilantis, Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese, official Archons of the Holy Great Church of Christ, presidents of Greek community organisations and a large number of guests.
