On Sunday, 22 October 2023, the Feast of the Synaxis of All the Holy Doctors was celebrated in Melbourne. At the Church of Saint Catherine in Malvern, the Divine Liturgy took place presided over by His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Melbourne.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, His Grace Bishop Kyriakos conveyed to all those gathered for the feast, the paternal blessings and love of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
His Grace also noted that from the early Christian period to modern times, doctors, nurses, health professionals, as well as other simple and conscientious Christian believers, served the sick by practically expressing God’s love for humanity, following the example and the image of Christ.
He also explained that the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate decided to establish the Synaxis of All the Holy Doctors as a sign of appreciation for the essential contribution of Medical Science and its practitioners to all of humanity.
Finally, His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis congratulated the doctors and health care workers who were present for their valuable service, and thanked them paternally, praying that the Lord would support and strengthen them in their blessed work. His Grace encouraged them to show sincere love and compassion, to honour one another and by cultivating fervent faith “to serve the Lord, to let hope give them joy, to be patient in trials, to persevere in prayer, to help others when they are in need and seek to show hospitality to all brothers and sisters in their difficult trials”.
