The Feast of the Monday of the Holy Spirit at Holy Zion

On the Monday following Pentecost Sunday, the Church dedicates a special celebration to the Holy Spirit, who is of one essence with the Father and the Son, on account of His particular role in the Inspiration — namely, that the Spirit descended in the form of tongues of fire upon the Apostles and enlightened them.

In commemoration of this event, on Monday, 27th May / 9th June 2025, the Patriarchate celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity on the hill of Holy Zion.

The Divine Liturgy was presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Isidoros of Hierapolis, concelebrated by the Hagiotaphite Hieromonks Klaudios, Amphilochios, and Simeon, the Arabic-speaking clergy Fr. Georgios and Fr. Nektarios, Hierodeacon Prodromos, and Deacon Eustathios. The chanting was performed by students and participating monks in the presence of many faithful from Jerusalem and devout pilgrims.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a procession took place on the hill of Holy Zion towards the Tomb of David and the Upper Room, with the reading of the first Kneeling Prayer inside the Church, a second in the Catacomb, and a third in the Upper Room.

Subsequently, the ecclesiastical congregation entered the site of the Tomb of David and afterwards returned to the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity.

The ecclesiastical congregation and the faithful were then received with a reception in the hall of the Patriarchal School by the Headmaster, Monk Vasileios.
