The Feast of the Great Holy Martyr Procopius at the Patriarchate of Jerusalem

On Friday, July 6/19, 2024, the commemoration of the Holy Great Martyr Procopius was celebrated by transfer by the Patriarchate of Jerusalem

On this feast, the Church remembers that Saint Procopius was born in Caesarea, Palestine, he was a military officer, under the persecutor of Christians Diocletian in the year 403, and was called to the Christian faith through the sign of the Cross in a crystal form and through God’s voice saying to him “I am the crucified Jesus”.

Having believed, he proclaimed Christ in his own country, and he was denounced by his mother Theodosia, who later believed. Tortured, Saint Procopius confessed Christ and, after being beheaded, he received the heavenly crown.

His memory was commemorated in his chapel, in the Holy Patriarch of Jerusalem Saint Modestos chapel on the Abu-Tor hill of Jerusalem opposite the hill of Holy Zion.

In the chapel of these saints, the commemoration of Saint Procopius was celebrated with the Divine Liturgy in the morning, officiated by Archimandrite Christodoulos. The chanting was delivered by Hierodeacon Dositheos, Monk Iouvenalios and Nun Salome, with the participation of nuns and a few believers from Jerusalem.

After the Divine Liturgy, the Priestly escort and the congregation were offered a reception by the supervisor of the Monastery, monk Seraphim, assisted by the abbess of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Sayda Naya, nun Seraphima.
