The Feast of Saint Euthymios at the Patriarchate of Jerusalem

On Sunday, 20th January / 2nd February 2025, the feast of Saint Euthymios the Great was celebrated at his holy Monastery, located in the Old City of Jerusalem and adjacent to the Holy Monastery of Panagia Saydnaya.
On this feast day, the Church commemorates that Saint Euthymios arrived in the Holy Land from Melitene in Armenia in 420. He founded a Monastery, a Lavra, where he received and guided thousands of monks into the monastic life in Christ, and thousands of Christians into the Christian life. He had Saint Theoctistos as a co-worker, who founded a Monastery of the Coenobitic type. Saint Euthymios was the teacher of Saint Sabas the Sanctified and converted the Empress Eudoxia from Monophysitism to Orthodoxy. He also received nomads from Persia at his Monastery and suggested to Patriarch Iuvenalios the ordination of their leader, Asphebetus-Peter, as their Bishop, as Metropolitan of “the Camp”. Due to his holiness, he was granted by God the gift of prophecy and healing.
In honour of Saint Euthymios, Vespers was held at his Holy Monastery in the afternoon, followed by the Divine Liturgy in the morning, led by His Eminence Metropolitan Kyriakos of Nazareth, with the participation of the Typikon overseer of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, Archimandrite Alexios, Archimandrite Christodoulos, Father Georgios Baramki, and the Deacons Evlogios and Dositheos, with the chanting of the Chief Chanter, Deacon Efstathios, along with the participation of monks, nuns from the Old City of Jerusalem, and Christians.
During the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, came to venerate, accompanied by the Fathers of the Hagiotaphite Brotherhood.
The Patriarchal and Episcopal entourage and the congregation were warmly received by the well-managing Abbess Sister Sarah of the Monastery.
