The Feast Day of the Three Hierarchs and the cutting of the Vasilopita in the Capital of Ethiopia

On Sunday, 28 January 2024, the Feast Day of the Three Holy Hierarchs, Saint Basil the Great, Saint Gregory the Theologian and Saint John Chrysostom was celebrated at the Cathedral of Saint Frumentius in Addis Ababa.

His Eminence Metropolitan Daniel of Aksum presided over the Divine Liturgy and was joined by Hieromonk Father Edesios, which was attended by the teachers, and male and female students of the Greek School of the Community.

Present also for the Feast Day were Ms. Vera Markopoulou, Director of the Consular Office of Greece, Mr. Odysseas Parris, President of the Greek Community, and the Director of “Michios” Lyceum, Mr. Georgios Filis.

In front of the Holy Icon, the Artoklasia (Blessing of the five loaves) was conducted in honour of the Holy Three Hierarchs, for the health, illumination and strengthening of the teachers and students.

The panegyric sermon was delivered by the teacher, Mr. Aristidis Giannakos.

After the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Daniel blessed and cut the Vasilopita, wishing all a blessed and joyful new year.

The Artoklasia and the Vasilopita were made and offered by the Greek Sports Association “Olympiacos” (Olympiacos Zorbas Greek Club Addis Ababa) and its President, Mr. Nasos Roussos, to whom the local Church expressed warm thanks.
