The Feast Day of Epiphany in Jervis Bay, New South Wales

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, The Archiepiscopal Vicar of Canberra, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis visited the Holy Church of Saint John the Forerunner in Jervis Bay, New South Wales, and liturgised for the Despotic Feast of Epiphany, joined also by Fr. Peter Mavrommatis, Assistant Parish Priest of Saint Euphemia, Bankstown and Principal of Saint Euphemia’s College in Bankstown, Sydney.

In his sermon, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew focused on two important points of the feast day. Firstly, in the Baptism of Christ, which once again demonstrates His humility. The Lord, as he pointed out, was baptised without this being required, since He was sinless.

The second point on which His Grace focused, was the revelation to humanity of the Holy Trinity, as during the Baptism of the Lord, the voice of God the Father was heard, and the Holy Spirit descended in the form of a dove.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis conveyed the love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, and reminded the faithful that His Eminence will honour the Parish with his presence on today’s feast day of its Patron, Saint John the Forerunner and Baptist.
