The Falling asleep of Metropolitan of Gortyn and Megalopolis, Jeremiah

His Eminence, Metropolitan Jeremiah (Fountas) of Gortyn and Megalopolis fell asleep in the Lord, Tuesday Night, 14th December, at 9:30pm (Greece Time). His passing away was made known with a simple announcement by the Holy Diocese of Gortyn and Megaloupolis.

The Blessed Hierarch was born in Nafpaktos in 1941.

He was a graduate from the Theological School of Athens, from where he graduated in 1964.

He was ordained a Deacon in 1969 and an Priest in 1972. He served as a Preacher in various Holy Dioceses and in the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.

In 2000 he was awarded as a Doctor of Theology. In 2003 he was elected Assistant Professor and in 2006 Fulltime Professor of the Theological School of the University of Athens. Where he taught Old Testament studies and wrote many interpretive and theological works.

He was ordained Metropolitan of Gortyn and Megalopolis on October 14, 2006.
