The Ecumenical Patriarch in Tsesme, Smyrna

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visited the Tsesme (Cesme) area of Smyrna on Saturday, October 8.  According to a relevant announcement by the Municipality of Cesme, Patriarch Bartholomew, who went to the area at the invitation of Mayor Ekrem Oran, visited the Church of Panagia in Alatsata and the Church of Saint Haralambos.

The Ecumenical Patriarch visited the Mayor in his office and was informed about issues in the area, while wishing that Cesme Castle be included in the permanent UNESCO World Heritage List, which is currently on the “trial” list.

The Mayor of Cesme hosted a lunch in honour of the Ecumenical Patriarch, who was accompanied by the Metropolitans Bartholomew of Smyrna and Kyrillos of Krinis, as well as expatriates George Theodoridis and George Papaliaris.
