The cutting of the Vasilopita at the Pontiaki Estia of Melbourne

In the presence of its board members, its dance teachers and musician collaborators, its members, parents and dance groups, the Central Pontian Association of Melbourne and Victoria “Pontiaki Estia” held the cutting of the Vasilopita for the new year.

On Sunday, 9 February, at the association’s facilities, in an emotionally charged atmosphere, full of tradition and the aroma of the unforgettable homeland, the members of the Pontiaki Estia exchanged wishes and promised that for another year they would keep the flame of culture that the Greeks of the Black Sea carried from its shores to every corner of the motherland and, subsequently, to the Antipodes of the South, unextinguished.

In his brief greeting, the Associations’ president, Mr. Kostas Tseprailides, thanked everyone who helped achieve the goals last year and at the same time declared the start of the new year, since for the association it is the year before the celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Also addressing the members, the public relations manager, Ms. Litsa Athanasiadis, emphasised the importance of the current year and pointed out the need for healthy, teamwork. In closing, she thanked the event’s contributors, such as the bakery of Iakovos and Antonia Xanthopoulos “Olympian Products” and Ms. Noula Pavlou for coordinating and serving of the food.

Finally, the president wished mental, spiritual and physical health to all members and friends of the club.

The blessed Vasilopita coin was found in the piece that was cut for the Association, therefore filling its young and old friends with joy and optimism for the year to come.
