The Archdiocesan Church of St Sophia (Holy Wisdom of God) of the Holy Diocese of Adelaide celebrates its patronal feast

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Parish of St Sophia (Holy Wisdom of God) – the Archdiocesan Church of the Holy Diocese of Adelaide – celebrated its patronal feast on Monday of the Holy Spirit (9th of June 2025). It is the third celebration since the founding of the Parish in 2022.
The celebrations began with the celebration of Vespers on Sunday evening at 6:30pm. His Eminence Archbishop Makarios was represented by His Grace Bishop Silouan of Adelaide, who was assisted by rector Fr John Saredakis and several other priests from across Adelaide. His Grace addressed the congregation, conveying the blessings of His Eminence and encouraging the faithful by saying that although it is a sacrifice to come to these services, no one leaves empty-handed – being filled spiritually through their participation.
Matins and Divine Liturgy followed the next day, with the other parishes of the city remaining closed in order to celebrate together at Saint Sophia. The service was again led by His Grace and celebrated together with the clergy from across the city, in the presence of government representatives Mr Steve Georganas (Federal Member for Adelaide), the Honourable Mr Tom Koutsantonis (State Member for West Torrens and Minister for Transport, Mining and Infrastructure, representing the Premier Mr Peter Malinauskas), Ms Alexandra Theodoropoulou (Consul-General for Greece), Mayor Angela Evans (City of Charles Sturt) and Mayor Michael Coxon (City of West Torrens). His Grace addressed the congregation, again conveying the blessings of His Eminence, thanking the government officials and everyone for their attendance.
The parish was blessed this year as the feast day coincided with the King’s Birthday public holiday celebration in SA, enabling many to come who would otherwise have work or school commitments – and in spite of Adelaide’s coldest and wettest spell for the year so far, the faithful came out in strong support. The service was followed by a luncheon, including a live dance performance from the St George College Middle School and singing by Paraskevi. To God be glory for all things.
