The Ambassador of Greece to Australia visits Archbishop Makarios of Australia
On Tuesday, 17 September 2024, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia received the visit of the Ambassador of Greece to Australia, His Excellency Mr. Stavros Venizelos, joined by the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr. Yannis Mallikourtis, at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese.
His Eminence welcomed the two Greek diplomats with joy and cordiality, with whom he had a constructive discussion on current issues and issues of mutual interest concerning the Greek Community. Particular emphasis was placed on the upcoming visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew (October 4-19, 2024), a significant event for the local Orthodox Church and Hellenism in Australia.
At the end of the meeting, the Archbishop presented Ambassador Venizelos with a commemorative series of coins which were cut for the centenary celebrations of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, while, before their departure, the two diplomats were guided to the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady, in which the planned renovation works are in full progress.
