Synaxarion for the Translation of the Relics of Saint Amphilochios of Patmos (19 September)

On the 19th of this month [September], we commemorate the translation of the Honorable Relics of our Venerable and God-bearing Father Amphilochios of Patmos.

Sending forth a fragrance of divine life,
Was perceived from your relics in your grave.
On the nineteenth the bones of Amphilochios appeared from the earth.

The new among our Venerable Fathers Amphilochios reposed as was becoming in the sleep of the Righteous on the 16th of April in the year of our salvation nineteen hundred and seventy [1970], in the revered Monastery of the Annunciation of the Mother of the Beloved which he established in Patmos. Today we commemorate the revered translation from the grave of his grace-flowing relics, which took place on the 19th of September in the year nineteen hundred and eighty [1980], in the presence of the Hierarchs Spyridon of Rhodes, Timothy of Crete, and Isidore of Leros, Kalymnos and Astypalaia, the Abbot and Archimandrite Isidore of the Monastery of the Theologian in Patmos, the Monks of the Great Monastery, and the Nuns of the above-mention Monastery, together with the sacred Clergy, and his spiritual children who assembled together on the island from many places.

When the grave was opened an inexpressible fragrance, with a scent of myrrh and many aromatic herbs, emitted from there, and his bones appeared sallow in sight bearing the seal of holiness. With reverence they were translated and placed in the holy Annunciation Monastery where miracles gush forth to those who hasten there with reverence.

The grave of the St. Amphilochios at the Annunciation Monastery in Patmos reads: “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren” (1 John 3:14).”Amphilochios the Hieromonk Makris, Brother of the Holy Monastery of St. John the Theologian, Founder of the Holy Monastery of the Annunciation of the Mother of the Beloved, who reposed on April 16th of the year of salvation 1970.” “Love towards God and your neighbor is the foundation of the Law and the Prophets, fulfilling the cornerstone (from the Service to St. Savvas the Sanctified).”

Kontakion in Plagal of the Fourth Tone

Having struggled in asceticism, you brightened your life, flew up to the heavens, were glorified immortally, with the uncreated God-head, you conversed, in light Amphilochios; intercede on our behalf, we who fall down before your divine relics.

Your divine relics have shown to be, a spring of sanctification, gushing forth from your coffin, Amphilochios may your miracles never cease, their bounteous flow, for those who approach them.

The entire service for the feast is located here in Greek.
