Sydney: The Parish-Community of Saint Ioannis Parramatta honoured their Patron Saint, St. John the Baptist
The Parish and Community of St. Ioannis, in the Parramatta area of Sydney, experienced many blessings during this year’s celebrations for their Patron Saint, on the occasion of the Feast of the Beheading of the Holy Glorious Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist John.
His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, presided over the liturgical services over the two days of August 28 and 29, the eve and main day of the feast.
During his sermon, Bishop Iakovos sincerely wished the parishioners a “Many blessed years”, pointing out that “if our time is not a time of preparation for eternal life, then they are rendered as “useless years”. “It is a great blessing to be children of the Church,” he emphasised.
Referring to the honoured Saint, the Holy Forerunner, Bishop Iakovos remarked that he prepared the people to repent, confess and want to change their lives. In addition, he spoke about the need for our cooperation with God and encouraged those present to follow the example of Saint John, from his temperance, his humility, but also his stability, that for him white was white and black, black.
The Parish-Community of St. Ioannis Parramatta is preparing for its annual “Let’s Go Greek” Festival, which will take place on Sunday, 8 September 2024. The all-day Festival will begin after the Divine Liturgy, around 11 am, and is expected to last until 9 pm.
