Sydney: The Evzones visit Saint Spyridon College

On Tuesday morning, 29 April 2025, Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox College, in Sydney, was visited by the delegation of the Presidential Guard of Greece, which is in Australia to participate in festive events on the occasion of ANZAC Day.
The delegation was enthusiastically welcomed by the 800 students of the College, from KMinus1 to Year 12, who, together with all the school staff, had filled the church of Saint Spyridon, during the Doxology for the start of the Second Term, after the Easter holidays.
The Parish Priest, Fr. Steven Scoutas, welcomed the 12 Evzones, along with the Commander and their Officer companions, while expressing his gratitude to the President of the Hellenic Republic, who allowed the Evzones to travel to Australia and visit the College.

The Head of College, Mrs. Amelia Katsogiannis, also welcomed the members of the Greek Presidential Guard and addressed the students, emphasising the common motto of the Greek Armed Forces and the College of Saint Spyridon – “ΑΙΕΝ ΑΡΙΣΤΕΥΕΙΝ / Forever Excelling” – emphasising the discipline and the role model that the Evzones represent for the students.
Commander Michael Tzinieris of the military unit, was visibly moved as he addressed the 800 students. He expressed his pride in being at Saint Spyridon College and, in turn, the accompanying Officers explained to the students the history and significance of the Evzones uniform.
After the Doxology Service, the Evzones were given a tour of the College’s facilities in Kingsford and met with several young students, while they were also offered light refreshments.
