Sydney: 2025 Special Religious Education Basic Accreditation Course

On Tuesday, 11 February, 100 Scripture teachers from across Sydney gathered at the Orthodox Mission Centre in Kingsgrove for the mandatory training required of all Scripture teachers. 

The meeting was attended by the Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese and Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne, Father Christophoros Krikelis, who shared words of encouragement. He reiterated the important role we play in the life of the Church and conveyed the blessings and support of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

The training covered essential topics, including child protection, mandatory reporting, the code of conduct, and classroom management.  A highlight of the day was the inspiring demonstration lessons led by our most experienced teachers, providing valuable tips and strategies to engage students of all ages. 

All the participants of the seminar prayed for God to continue to bless the missionary work of our Church, especially in nurturing the spiritual development of children who may have little or no other contact with the Church.  For many children, their encounter with a Scripture teacher is the only opportunity to learn about their Orthodox faith.
