Sunday of Orthodoxy celebrated with solemnity at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens

The First Sunday of Lent, known as the Sunday of Orthodoxy, was celebrated on Sunday, 9 March 2025, with great solemnity and deep reverence at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, with a Poly-Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.
His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece presided over the Divine Liturgy, and was joined by Their Eminences, Metropolitan Dorotheos of Syros, Metropolitan David of Grevena, Metropolitan Stephanos of Philippi, Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki, Metropolitan Athanasios of Siatista, Metropolitan Ierotheos of Limnos, Metropolitan Ioustinos of Nea Krini,Metropolitan Daniel of Kaisariani, Metropolitan Ephraim of Hydra, Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus, and Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias.
The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, honoured the Divine Liturgy with her presence, underscoring the national and religious significance of the feast for the country.
The festal sermon was delivered by Metropolitan Dorotheos of Syros, who emphasised the Sunday of Orthodoxy as a day marking the triumph of faith and the unity of the Church.
This historic day commemorates the victory of the Orthodox Church over iconoclasm and the restoration of the veneration of holy icons, reaffirming the steadfastness of the Orthodox faith and its spiritual heritage.
