‘Successful’ operation gets 16 Greeks to safety from Iran

An operation to evacuate 16 Greek citizens from Iran amid escalating hostilities with Israel was “successfully completed under extremely adverse conditions,” the Foreign Ministry in Athens said on Thursday.

The 16 Greeks were evacuated overland from Iran to Azerbaijan, with the help of the Greek embassies in Tehran and Baku. 

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Greek diplomatic authorities in the region are undertaking every possible effort to ensure the safe repatriation of Greek citizens,” the ministry’s announcement said.

Another 140 Greek citizens were evacuated from Israel this week.
