State Funeral Service for Western Australia’s oldest surviving World War II army prisoner of war, Arthur Leggett

A State Funeral Service for the Late Mr Arthur Leslie Leggett OAM was held on Saturday 10 May, at St George’s Anglican Cathedral in Perth, WA.

Mr Leggett, the last surviving veteran Western Australian soldier who fought in the Battle of Crete in May 1941, passed away aged 106. 

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth, who both are currently in Greece, were represented by Father Terry Gerovasilis at the funeral service.

The Consul of Greece in Perth, Ms Eleni Georgopoulou, also was in attendance. 

The late Arthur Leggett would remind us by saying it’s important to remember the efforts of servicemen and women who have fought and died to protect Australia.
