Seismic activity calming down in Santorini region

Seismic activity between Santorini and Amorgos continues to gradually subside, both in terms of daily frequency and maximum magnitude, according to the latest report from the Interdisciplinary Risk Management Committee of the University of Athens (EKPA).

The activity remains concentrated in the same epicentral area, primarily southwest of Anydros, with no significant uptick in microseismic events since February 15.

Since the onset of the seismic activity on January 26, more than 23,500 quakes have been detected, over 20,000 of which had a magnitude above 1.0. On February 20, over 270 were recorded, with 17 measuring above 2.5. The strongest was 3.7. On February 21, there were over 280; the strongest being 3.5.

On February 22, there were over 300 – the strongest being 3.3. Sixty-one occurred on Sunday with the strongest at 3.6. On Monday, a 4.4 quake was recorded between Santorini and Amorgos.
