Program for the celebration of the Indiction at the Ecumenical Patriarchate
On Sunday, 1st of September, the Feast of the Indiction (opening of the ecclesiastical year) and the Synaxis, in honour and memory of the Virgin Mary Pammakaristos, whose ancient sacred Icon is treasured there, will be celebrated at the Venerable Patriarchal Church of Saint George, at the Phanar.
During the Great Vespers of the eve of the feast, Saturday, 31 August 2024, at 6:00 p.m., His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will officiate at the Cathedral of the Entrance of the Theotokos to the Temple in the Stavrodromi District. After the dismissal, His All-Holiness will perform the blessing of the completed renovation of the adjacent cells of the Cathedral.
The following day, the day of the Feast, the Poly-Hierarchical and Patriarchal Divine Liturgy will be celebrated, with the participation of the venerable Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne, who will be present in Constantinople for the works of the Synaxis of the Hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne.
The sacred Icon of the Virgin Mary Pammakaristos will be displayed, according to tradition, on the soleas of the venerable Patriarch Church for veneration by the pious laity.
During the Divine Liturgy, a special Message of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholom will be read for the Beginning of the Ecclesiastical Year and the Solemn Day of Prayers for the Natural Environment.
