Perth: Sts Constantine and Helen Family Picnic Day at Kings Park

On Sunday the 10th of October, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea, the Church of Sts Constantine and Helene hosted a Family Picnic afternoon. The event was very well attended by over 100 people and was held in the Biara area of King’s Park which is one of the world’s largest and most beautiful inner city parks. Kings Park is home to the spectacular Western Australian Botanic Garden, which displays over 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora. Visitors can enjoy views of the Swan and Canning Rivers as well as the city skyline. A variety of children’s discovery play areas can also be found in Kings Park.

The afternoon picnic brought together may of the families and children of the parish to participate in community and friendship building activities. The event was organised by many of the young parents of the Parish and the Sunday School Teachers led the children in group activities such as tug of war, tunnel ball and relay races.

The afternoon picnic was the second school holiday activity for the children organised by the Parish during these school holidays. As the children go back to school for Term 4, Parish Priest Fr Terry Gerovasilis, reminded all the children to take the love, care and example of Jesus Christ into their school, home and family life.

During the afternoon tea, a special cake was cut to celebrate the 45th wedding anniversary of Greg and Stacey Doucas, two long-term loyal parishioners of the Church. Stacey’s Grandfather, Basil Palassis, was a member on the first committee of the Hellenic Community of WA during the building of the Church of Sts Constantine and Helene in the 1920’s and 1930’s.

A wonderful afternoon of delicious food, fun games and company was enjoyed by all.

The Parish extends is warmest appreciation to all the volunteers who helped organise the picnic and make the event a huge success.
