Official opening of International Scientific Conference for centenary of journal “Theologia”

The official opening of the International Scientific Conference organised by the Church of Greece for the centenary (1923-2023) of the foundation and first publication of the scientific journal “Theologia” (Theology) was held at the Metropolitan Church of Athens in the presence of high-profile figures from Greece and abroad.
The other sessions (12-14 October 2023) will take place at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall.
The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, addressed the International Scientific Conference for the 100th anniversary of the foundation and circulation of the periodical “Theologia”.
It is recalled that an official invitation of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece to attend the International Scientific Conference was sent by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece to the President of the Hellenic Republic.
“The unprecedented challenges of our times, but also the suffering that is multiplied in many parts of the world by wars, violence, barbarism, inequalities, require vigilance and action,” stressed the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou in her address at the opening of the International Scientific Conference.
“We are, literally, at a particularly critical and transitional point in the evolution of humanity,” she added. “The Orthodox perception, which sees humans in relation to God and vice versa, promotes social dialogue on our relationship with new technologies and their consequences in our daily lives,” the president stressed.
As the president pointed out, “The digitisation of human life, the creation of a virtual reality, is massively replacing the natural and social environment and, therefore, we are at risk of alienating us from it. At the same time, throughout the planet, the successive crises, wars, geopolitical, economic, political matters, health, as well as climate change and their devastating effects, intensify the uncertainty in life and exarcebate our existential anxiety.”
“Without further ado, I welcome the initiative of the Church of Greece and wish every success in the work of the Conference.”
It is recalled that the conference takes place from October 11th to October 14th, 2023 in Athens, with the main topic: “Orthodox Theology on the way to the ‘intangible reality’ of late modernity”.
The Holy Synod and its President, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, have also invited His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Greek Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Primates and representatives of Autocephalous Churches, and the President of the Greek Parliament to the Conference.
