Official Cutting of the Vasilopita at the offices of the Archdiocesan District of Perth

The official blessing and cutting of the Vasilopita took place in the function centre located on the ground level of the Archdiocesan District of Perth offices on Wednesday, 3 January 2024.

His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Perth, presided at the service, which was attended by the Vice Consul for Maritime Affairs, Commander Antonis Manousos, representing the Consul of Greece in Perth, Ms. Georgia Karasiotou. In addition, representatives from over 30 Greek Associations and Brotherhoods in Western Austtalia were also in attendance.

Prior to the commencement of the service, Father Terry Gerovasilis, the Master of Ceremonies, read the message of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia printed in the 2024 pocket size calendar booklet.

Mr. Paul Savvas, representing the Hellenic Community of WA, was the person who found the coin. He was gifted a commemorative personalised medallion marking the centenary of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia minted at the Perth Mint.

Once everyone had received their piece of the Vasilopita from His Grace, they were offered refreshments on the grounds of the Church of St Nektarios. Mr. Christos Athanasiou, President of the Florina Brotherhood of Western Australia, entertained everyone by playing the accordion.

Finally, His Grace Bishop Elpidios conveyed to all the blessings and love of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
