NSW sees massive jump in vaccination rate as COVID cases DROP

New South Wales is close to reaching its 70 per cent fully vaccinated target after a massive jump in the vaccination rate overnight.

As of Wednesday, 69.1 per cent of the population aged 16 and over is fully vaccinated, with 89.01 per cent having received their first dose.

The achievement means NSW is on track for fully vaccinated residents to enjoy some freedoms come Monday, October 11.

Meanwhile, the state recorded another 10 COVID-related deaths and 594 cases.

The deaths include seven men and three women.

One person was in their 40s, one was in their 60s, four were in their 70s, two were in their 80s, and two were in their 90s.

Three of those who died were unvaccinated, four people had received one dose of a COVID vaccine, and three had received two doses.

There are currently 959 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 188 people in intensive care, 93 of whom require ventilation.

Since the outbreak began in June, there have been 60,596 COVID cases and 395 deaths.
