Northcote: Memory of Saint Eleftherios and Saint Anthia celebrated at Church of Saint Eleftherios, Brunswick
His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, representing His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, presided over the Holy Services at the celebrating Church of Saint Eleftherios, in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, on the occasion of the feast day of Saint Eleftherios the Holy Martyr and His mother Saint Anthia.
Specifically, on the eve of the feast, His Grace Bishop Evmenios officiated at the Vespers, joined also by priests from across Victoria, while on the main day of the feast, His Grace officiated at the Matins Service and presided over the Divine Liturgy, also being joined by the Proistamenos of the Parish-Community, Father Kyriakos Peripetsakis, and also Father John Frangos.
Present for the feast day, among others, was the President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Mr. Bill Papastergiaidis.
His Grace Bishop Evmenios, during his sermon, focused on the good and pious family of Saint Eleftherios, characteristically noting that “good trees bear good fruit”. “We must give great importance to proper education”, His Grace pointed out to the faithful, adding that “if we give our children knowledge and wisdom when they are like sponges, that is at an early age, they will absorb these things and we can be sure that they will become good people and maybe even Saints”. “Besides, this is our goal, becoming like the Saints,” he pointed out in conclusion.
His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta then conveyed to the congregation, the wishes and prayers of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia for the feast of Saint Eleftherios and Saint Anthia, as well as for the upcoming great feast day of Christmas.
