Metropolitan of Paphos: “The elections will take place on December 18 and this won’t change”
The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus met to discuss issues related to the electoral process.
Among other things, a proposal by the Synods to change the date of the Archdiocesan elections was examined, but the date of the elections remains December 18th.
Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos, as locum tenens of the throne, announced the decisions made.
Among the decisions of the Holy Synod, it is that applications for inclusion on the list of foreigners living in Cyprus will not be accepted. “The elections will take place on December 18 and this won’t change,” said the Metropolitan of Paphos.
Asked when the Holy Synod will meet after the election process for the appointment of the new Archbishop, the Metropolitan of Paphos indicated that they are more likely to take place between Christmas and New Year.
At the Synod, Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, who is sick with covid, was represented, while the Metropolitan of Tamasos, who went to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, was absent.
