Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa visits the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Tonsure of a new Archon

His Eminence Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa visited the see of the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the Phanar and had a meeting with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

Metropolitan Ieronymos along with His Eminence Metropolitan Georgios of Karpenisi, accompanied by the Protosyncellus of the Metropolis of Larissa Archimandrite Ignatios Mourtzanos and the Honourable Professor Dr. Sotirios Balatsoukas, made their pilgrimage to the Primate of our Orthodox Church and exchanged wishes for the new year, while they discussed current issues of ecclesiastical current affairs.

A unique experience was witnessed by those who participated from Larissa, in the pilgrimage organised by the Holy Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos to the Queen of Cities, accompanied by His Eminence Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos, as they attended the tonsure as Archon Protonotarios of the Honourable Professor and Director of the personal office of Metropolitan Ieronymos, Dr. Sotirios Balatsoukas.

The tonsure took place in the Venerable Patriarchal Church of Saint George, immediately after the vespers of the day. Holy Hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne and the Church of Greece, Abbots and Monastic brotherhoods, clergy and lay brothers and sisters were present.

In his speech, the Ecumenical Patriarch primarily referred to the honour of receiving the office of Archon of the Holy and Great Church of Christ, while he made special mention of the personality and work of Mr. Balatsoukas.

In his response, Dr. Balatsoukas thanked His All-Holiness for the great honour he bestowed upon him by giving him the high office of Archon Protonotarios, while he referred to many people who played a decisive role in his life, first of all Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos.

At the end of the service, His All-Holiness warmly welcomed all the pilgrims, including Larissa MP Stella Biziou, wishing everyone a blessed year, while he gave everyone His paternal blessing and a souvenir.
