Melbourne: Philoptochos Society of Melbourne hosts High Tea Fundraiser to support ‘Five Loaves’ Initiative

In a heartfelt act of Christian charity, the Philoptochos Society of Melbourne recently hosted a High Tea Fundraiser, drawing together faithful members of the Orthodox community in support of a vital outreach initiative. The event aimed to raise funds for the purchase of a dedicated feeding van to further the mission of the Five Loaves Feeding the Homeless Programme—an Initiative that brings nourishment, dignity, and hope to those most in need.

This Christ-centred initiative, inspired by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and under the pastoral guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne, seeks to embody the love of our Lord through practical service. Rooted in the Gospel commandment to care for “the least of these,” Five Loaves currently ministers to the Richmond community in Melbourne. The addition of a dedicated food van will allow volunteers to extend this outreach, offering meals on more nights and in more locations throughout the week.

The High Tea event was a beautiful testament to the power of Christian fellowship and selfless giving. Made possible by the extraordinary generosity of sponsors and supporters, it brought together compassionate individuals whose contributions are now helping to provide tangible relief to the homeless and hungry. Guests participated with open hearts, knowing that every act of support reflects the mercy and love of Christ in action.

As the event concluded, His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne conveyed the paternal blessings and wholehearted support of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios. His Grace offered an inspiring message, calling attention to the sacred responsibility we all share in serving our neighbour and building communities rooted in love and compassion.

The Philoptochos Society of Melbourne extended its deep gratitude to all volunteers, donors, and attendees. Through their dedication, the vision of a mobile feeding ministry has moved closer to reality—bringing sustenance not only to the body, but to the soul, and bearing witness to the living presence of Christ among the suffering and the poor.
