Holy Metropolis of Patras: Letter of gratitude to the Ecumenical Patriarch for the canonisation of Saint Gervasios

Emotional celebratory events continue in Patras for Saint Gervasios, who was ranked among the Saints of the Orthodox Church, following a decision of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, following a proposal by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

On Friday, 17 November 2023, a Divine Liturgy took place at the Church of Saint Paraskevi, in Sychaina, Patras, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Patras, at the tomb of Saint Gervasios and where his holy and grace-filled relics are kept.

A large crowd of believers flocked to venerate the Saint and open to him the depths of their hearts. The ‘Grandfather’ of Patra most assuredly made his presence known and the Lord richly poured out His grace to all through the intercessions of Saint Gervasios.

The cheerfulness of the People and the spiritual joy and emotion for the great event both for the Church of Patras and for the entirety of Orthodoxy is widespread.

Reverently, the hearts of the people of Patra turn to the venerable person of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who as an instrument of Divine Grace, delighted the multitudes of pious and Orthodox Christians, not only the Christ-loving people of Patras, but also all the God-loving and Saint-loving people of the world, with the canonisation of Saint Gervasios. The Patriarch of the Saints sealed the conscience of the People of Patras, regarding the holiness of the sign-bearer and miracle worker Saint Gervasios, of which the people of Patras were aware, since the time Father Gervasios lived among them, from then until today and will have until the end of the ages.

His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Patras, sent a letter of gratitude to His All-Holiness, through which he expressed his deepest feelings and emotions, as well as those of the Holy Clergy and the pious People of the Holy Metropolis of Patras, expressing the deepest respect, grateful and filial thanks to the Patriarch of the Nation.

From the moment the joyful news about Saint Gervasios arrived, in fact during the Divine Liturgy, in the Holy Church of Saint Andrew in Patras, as well as in the holy services of Vespers and of course in the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Saint Paraskevi in Sychaina, Patras, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos reverently referred to the person of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, expressing the grateful thanks of all the pious priests and pious Christians of the Holy Metropolis of Patras and not only, since they rejoice all over Greece, but also worldwide, those who love God and his holy Saints.

The Clergy and People then chanted the Fimi of His All-Holiness, in exultation of heart and great reverence, while also offering their filial and grateful thanks to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the Patriarch of the Saints.
