Holy Diocese of Perth: New Year’s Eve event a resounding success
The Holy Diocese of Perth’s New Year’s Eve Event, which took place on the grounds of the Archdiocese offices on Tuesday the 31st of December, was a huge success with close to 450 people in attendance. The event took place outdoors under the stars and opposite the Church of Saint Nektarios which remained open all night allowing the opportunity for people to enter.
It was wonderful to see so many young families attend the Perth Diocese New Year’s Eve Event and whose main purpose was to bring the entire Greek community together in welcoming the New Year.
The evening commenced with His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth, wishing everyone, on behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, a blessed and salvific 2025.
In attendance was also the Honourable Mr Michael Sutherland, former Speaker of State Legislative Assembly, Mrs Michelle Sutherland, Liberal Party candidate for the state seat of Mt Lawley and Mr Frank Paolino, Labor candidate for Mt Lawley. In addition, Presidents from various Greek Associations also attended.
The Greek Language and Culture Institute of Evangelismos Dance Group opened the evening with various performances.
Delicious authentic Greek food was prepared by Effie and Dimitri from “The Greek Bahari” and “The Ammos” four-member Band travelled all the way from Sydney to entertain everyone with traditional Greek music. Close to midnight the church bells could be heard ringing as the New Year approached.
Sixteen sponsors supported the event, and all were acknowledged on the night.
The traditional Vasilopita was distributed by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth and the clergy; the young winner was presented with the set of four Archdiocese coins produced in honour of the centenary of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. In addition, all families received the 2025 Archdiocese calendar booklet as a gift.
Overall, the event had a great family and jovial atmosphere, and the feedback received from those in attendance was outstanding. A huge thank you goes to the organising committee who worked tirelessly the last few months leading up to the event.
