Holy Diocese of Chora: Sanctification Service for the new school year at Saint John’s College

The Sanctification Service (Agiasmos) for the beginning of the new school year was celebrated with particular splendour and spiritual reverence at St. John’s College, Preston, Melbourne, by His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, who represented His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. Students, teachers, clergy and members of the school community were all present.
In his address, His Grace Bishop Evmenios reminded that education is not only the acquisition of knowledge, but also the formation of character and faith. He encouraged the students to make the most of the new year with dedication, responsibility and trust in God, as true learning is a path of spiritual and personal development.
He conveyed the paternal wishes and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, underlining the Church’s continued support for the students, teachers and their families.

Referring to the teachers, His Grace praised their role as spiritual guides and urged them to cultivate in students the search for truth, patience and a love for learning. At the same time, he called on parents to stand by their children, offering an environment of love, encouragement and prayer.
Particular emphasis was placed on the Year 12 students and those preparing for their final senior examinations, whom the Bishop of Chora called on to work with perseverance and courage, reminding them that success is not judged only by grades, but by character and faith. He referred to the words of the Apostle Paul: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), as a source of strength and hope.
